Brief description
Yevgeniy Prigozhin was the founder and owner of the Wagner PMC; he also controlled the network of companies and organisations, often linked to his Concord company, that financed Wagner. Ben Dalton and Candace Rondeaux argue that Prigozhin “likely rarely directly oversaw Wagner’s military field operations”; instead, they describe him as an “executive frontman” who devoted much of his effort to liaising with high-profile members of the Russian elite (New America, 2025). Jack Margolin attributes Prigozhin’s success to his own “ruthlessness and determination; Putin's international ambitions and indecision; and the Russian political system of rewards for greed, violence and initiative” (Margolin, 2024:25).
Prigozhin died in a plane crash in August 2023.
