Brief description
Isa Munayev was a commander of the Dzhokhar Dudayev International Peacekeeping Battalion.
He was a veteran of both Chechen wars, commanding a unit in the first war, a police department in the interwar period, and the South-Western Defence Sector in 2001. However, he was wounded, fled the country, and received asylum in Denmark (Caucasian Knot, 2015; Caucasian Knot, 2023).
In exile, Munayev helped create the Free Caucasus Social and Political Movement. In 2014, following Russia’s annexation of Crimea and operations in eastern Ukraine, he travelled to Ukraine to help set up the Dzhokhar Dudayev International Peacekeeping Battalion. He commanded the group until he was killed at Debaltsevo in February 2015.
