Brief description
Aleksey Komkov is head of the Federal Security Service (FSB) Operational Information and International Relations Service (Fifth Service). Prior to that, he served as head of the Internal Security Directorate and then simultaneously as deputy head of the Counterintelligence Service (First Service) and as head of that service’s Department of Counterintelligence Operations.
Komkov has led high-profile investigations into corruption in the Economic Counterintelligence Service. His work included the arrests of Colonoel Kirill Cherkalin, an employee of the service’s Directorate K, and two officers from the FSB’s Investigative Directorate (Riehle, 2024:32)
