Brief description
Adzhnad al-Kavkaz was a Chechen insurgent group that fought alongside other jihadist factions in the Syrian conflict against Bashar al-Asad. It recruited mainly through personal networks in the Chechen diaspora. It cooperated with various groups, including Jund al-Sham and Jaysh al-Khilafah al-Islamiya
Leadership
The group was led throughout its existence by Rustam Azhiyev, a veteran of the Second Chechen War. Its military emir was Khamza al-Shishani. The group was always small and functioned effectively as Azhiyev’s personal faction.
