Brief description
Zelimkhan Batukayev was commander of the 2nd motor-rifle battalion, a unit within Spetsnaz Akhmat. His call sign is Shustryy, and his unit was better known as the Shustryy Group. He was recruited to Wagner from prison, where he was serving time for armed robbery and murder, before transferring to Spetsnaz Akhmat.
Batukayev died in February 2025 — Spetsnaz Akhmat commander Apti Alaudinov claimed he had suffered a cerebral haemorrhage as a result of fighting for three days without sleep, while Chechen opposition channel NIYSO offered the more plausible explanation that he had died of a drug overdose while on leave back home in Chechnya.
