Спецполк полиции имени Ахмата Кадырова МВД по Чечне
Brief description
The Akhmat Kadyrov Special Purpose Police Regiment is a unit of the Chechen security services. It is part of the Chechen Interior Ministry — its precise position within the organisational infrastructure is unclear, but it may be subordinate to the Interior Ministry authorities for Groznyy while enjoying a considerable degree of autonomy.
Chechen state media describe the unit as playing a central role in defeating counterinsurgency in the republic, including destroying the “last cell of the terrorists” in 2021 — possibly a reference to the death of Aslan Byutyukaev, one of the last leaders of the local branch of the Islamic State’s Caucasus Wilayah, in January of that year (Vesti Chechenskoy Respubliki, 2024).
It has participated in Russia’s war on Ukraine.
