Brief description
The 46th Detached Operational Brigade is a unit of the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardia) subordinate to the North Caucasus District Troops. It is responsible for providing security across Chechnya. Prior to the creation of Rosgvardia, it was part of the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Interior Troops. It is based in Groznyy.
The unit was established on the basis of existing Interior Troops forces from across the country, with the purpose of fighting in the Second Chechen War. The edict creating the unit was signed in February 2000; given that it celebrates its anniversary on 1 November, that was presumably when the unit was fully operational (Voenpro.ru, 2021).
