Brief description
The 291st Guards Motor Rifle Regiment is part of the Ministry of Defence’s 42nd Guards Motor Rifle Division. The Regiment descends from a Soviet unit dissolved in 1989 and recreated in 2000; it was then dissolved again in 2009. It was recreated in its current form as part of the resurrected 42nd Division in September 2016 (Izvestiya, 2016). It is based in Borzoy, Chechnya.
It has participated in Russia’s war on Ukraine.
