Fillieule (2017): Explains neglect of decline of movements partly through reference to sources: Movements, rather than activism itself, are taken as the focal point, and so the source material on which much scholarship rests evaporates. Former activists are more difficult to find and access.
Fillieule (2017:278): Differentiates between forms of demobilisation: of an entire social movement sector; of a specific mobilisation campaign; of a specific organisation; of individuals through non-voluntary means, including a collective decision to disband an organisation and arrest; of individuals through voluntary means.
