Confirmed: Chechen commander Khuseyn Mezhidov was at Hostomel in February 2022.
I’ve been posting recently about an ongoing investigation into possible Chechen involvement in the Bucha massacre in the early stages of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
One thing I’ve been able to confirm is that Mezhidov was definitely in Hostomel (just outside Bucha) in February 2022, and possibly beyond.
I’ve also narrowed the timeframe of his deployment to Ukraine to him having left no later than July 2022 — though it’s likely he left earlier, in May or possibly even April.
After Ukraine, he pretty much disappeared from view, until his recent appointment as commander of Akhmat-Kavkaz Regiment. Why is an as-yet unanswered question…
None of this is earth shattering, but it is a necessary stepping stone towards narrowing down where and when the Chechens deployed in the early stages of the war.
